Golden Arm Award®
Named after the man many refer to as the greatest quarterback ever to play football, the prestigious Golden Arm Award® is presented annually by the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation, Inc. and Transamerica. Candidates for the Golden Arm Award® are judged upon character, citizenship, scholastic achievement, leadership qualities, and athletic accomplishments. Past winners include current NFL players such as Matt Ryan, Matt Leinart, Peyton Manning and Colt McCoy.
Transamerica is a proud sponsor of the Johnny Unitas® Golden Arm Award®. We bring over 100 years of financial expertise to the playing field to offer you products and services. And just like Johnny Unitas, Transamerica seeks to recognize others who work hard, show determination and strive to be the best.
2013 Golden Arm Award®
AJ McCarron's college football resume is a testament to his skill, character, and
his ability to turn life's greatest moments into real success. We believe these
are the attributes that distinguish all Tomorrow Makers.
Already the winner of two BCS national championships, we are proud to announce that the Alabama senior quarterback is the 2013 winner of the prestigious 27th- annual Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, sponsored by Transamerica and given in recognition of the country's top senior signal-caller.
McCarron, a 6-foot-4, 214-pound native of Mobile, Ala., guided the fourth-ranked Crimson Tide to an 11- mark this season and the doorstep of playing for its record third consecutive BCS national title game. McCarron has thrown for more than 2,600 yards this season, including 26 touchdowns against only five interceptions. McCarron will receive the award Dec. 13 at a ceremony in downtown Baltimore, the city where Unitas, a former Louisville standout, became the prototype for today's NFL quarterback.
